Poppin' the Cherry: The LOUD Guide to NYFW for First-Timers

Ahh, September is upon us. The season of pumpkin spice, kids dreading the end of summer, and most importantly, new designs from the fashion gods. Not only does the ninth month of the year signify the release of the fashion world's biblical equivalent, but it also, makes way for the highly coveted New York Fashion Week. With designers scrambling to get their Spring/Summer '16 collections ready for viewing and critique, fashion week-goers are anxious to see how the new changes made to this legendary week of events will affect this season and so forth.

Breaking away from a long-time partnership with Mercedes-Benz and leaving its previous home of Lincoln Center, NYFW is under new management by talent firm IMG, which has stepped up to the plate to take command of the planning for the gist of the NYFW festivities. While the Skylight at Moynihan Station has been chosen to stand as the new 'tents' in conjunction with Milk Studios and Skylight Clarkson Sq, many shows are scattered all around the Big Apple.

Even with all the big changes happening this season, some things are sure to remain the same. For this reason, I've decided to prep first-timer NYFW attendees with this LOUD guide just in time for fashion week. Enjoy!

Quilt Me Down, Chain Me Up: Jeremy Scott's First Collection As Creative Director For Moschino

It seems like it was just yesterday when the announcement was made that LOUD and innovative  designer, Jeremy Scott was named Creative Director of the Italian luxury brand, Moschino. Well, it looks like Scott has been busy since October and we finally get to see the fruits of his labor. Get ready for lots of reds, leather, gold, chains, quilting, and, overall, extravagancy.

Rapping Little Black Girl Line: Nicki Minaj for Kmart

The HBIC (Head Barb In Charge) just released some new sneak peak pics of her upcoming clothing line for Kmart. I know, why not Target? Oh well. Get in where you fit in. 

Now we know all the Minaj stans out there are dying to get their hands on a piece of the new line. That's obvi. But what about everyone else?

I want to talk to you guys about a topic that can be very annoying to many but beneficial at the same time; fitness. You can't walk around thinking you're living life LOUD just by the clothes you wear! No, no, no. You gotta work from the inside out. Otherwise, you'll end up looking like a mannequin. Not those fierce looking ones either. I mean, I'm pretty sure we've all seen some people walk around in clothes we would wear ourselves but still think they didn't pull off the fit because they look like a boring corpse, right? Or they can't pull off the look because it doesn't compliment their silhouette? Exactly.

Poetic Justice comeback?

Trends are a funny thing. For anyone who is familiar with the cycle of fashion, you know exactly what I mean. One second, there's this hot new trend that your fave celeb is wearing. At this point, everyone  jumps on the bandwagon just so they can say they were down. The next minute, the trend has become trashy, tacky, and all the other words you can find that conjure up a negative connotation in the fashion world. Why? Because the trend trickled down too low. 

Even so, there's this amazing thing that happens to trends time-to-time. Actually, a lot. Some socialite who doesnt give a fuck about what others say and is fearless in fashion decides to breath some air into some left-for-dead trend. Do you know what that's called people? A LOUD revival!

Recently, I've been seeing a LOUD revival occurring. Anyone remember Janet Jackson in "Poetic Justice"? Of course you do, what a dumb question. For those who are not familiar with the movie, Miss. Jackson (but I ain't nasty) wore these long, down-to-the-bottom-of-her-back, signature box braids through out the movie. This was back in '93... Considering the difference in time, you can understand why I am surprised to see this hairstyle making a comeback. Video vixen, Yaris Sanchez was gushing on instagram  about how badly she wanted to get them,  Saha Concierge socialite, Shanti is already tired of the do, and even Lashontae Heckard, from "The Game", sported them.  

Which highly successful singer has joined the LOUD revival of this trend??

Hey lovers! 

Have you ever had a moment when you KNOW you know the name of a certain type of garment  or you forgot the term for a certain fashion style?? I KNOWWW, that happens to me all the time. You feel stupid because you look like you don't know the most basic info that you DEFINITELY know. So, guess what?! I decided to make a page in dedication to such moments! I shall call it LOUD Terminology.

So, when you're having a brain fart (and you know you will...), feel free to come check this page out to save yourself from unnecessarily looking dumb over information you already know! Be sure  to check back time to time as I will continue to update the list!

LOUD Terminology

Live Life LOUD: Love Oneself Until Death. It's a way of life! How can you possibly be fashionable and express yourself if you don't have enough confidence to love yourself?! Being LOUD allows you the freedom you deserve to express yourself freely with out caring about the opinions of others. LOUDness keeps you from looking like a clothes hanger, and I'm not talking about your weight...

Color Blocking: Matching bold opposite colors to create a fashionable contrast --> AKA mixing colors that don't match AT ALL. If you want to keep it simple but still make a statement, try mixing a bold color with neutrals (black, white, beige).
